about

In the words of poet Farah Chamma:

"Manara was originally a prayer that I wrote before bed while thinking of a lover and a friend. The original title was Prayer and had direct expressions of supplication. I was praying that our relationship stays beautiful and becomes even more beautiful and organic, like nature (birds singing, water, fire, air etc…) When I shared it with Ruba, we found new meanings in it together, less personal and more collective. It made me read my own words again, realizing that the text contains a voice of a child, who is afraid of nightmares and the dark, yet who wants to overcome these fears.

The image of the lighthouse, the manara, guided Ruba and me to finding different pathways towards this song and towards our collaboration Mai w Dai (Water and Light)."
